Scranton’s Latin Festival

Blog
This past weekend, September 29-30, the Lackawanna County Courthouse square was home to the annual Scranton Latin Festival. Blanca Fernandez organized the event that gathered multiple local performers, musicians, and vendors to come together and celebrate their Hispanic heritage. Fernandez says she wanted the festival to be multicultural and diverse “to promote harmony, love, tolerance, acceptance. Everything that’s needed nowadays.” On Saturday, attendees could watch performances from Noelia Otayza and Ludy Rosales, Champions of Marinera Norteña Peru, a Peruvian coastal dance. Also showcasing their heritage was Frank LittleBear and his family. LittleBear is from the Cree Nation and the founder of Red Visions Dance Troupe, a group dedicated to outreach, understanding, and education of Native American culture through performing arts. Telehealth, the Newest Program from Caring Communities

AIDS, Blog, Blood, Caring Communities, HIV, Transmission
Since the mid-1990s, Caring Communities has offered HIV Case Management services to those living with HIV or AIDS in North Central Pennsylvania.  In January 2017, our agency expanded these services to individuals living with HIV and AIDS in Northeastern Pennsylvania by offering case management out of our clinic in Hazleton, PA.  Today, we continue to offer these services throughout twelve counties in Pennsylvania including Bradford, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming. Many of the counties we serve are quite rural and it's especially challenging for individuals we help in those counties to travel to medical facilities for health services.  That's why Caring Communities has started a new Telehealth program to offer quality health care services for individuals living with HIV or AIDS.  This program…

Pride on the Mountain

Blog
Rain was steady, but that didn’t stop attendees from showing up and jumping in at Pride on the Mountain on September 8, 2018. Mid-afternoon was set aside for a drag show. Queens and Kings huddled just off stage, excited to share their performances with the eager crowd. First up was Buster Highman, who also had the honor of passing…
