Telehealth, the Newest Program from Caring Communities

Since the mid-1990s, Caring Communities has offered HIV Case Management services to those living with HIV or AIDS in North Central Pennsylvania.  In January 2017, our agency expanded these services to individuals living with HIV and AIDS in Northeastern Pennsylvania by offering case management out of our clinic in Hazleton, PA.  Today, we continue to offer these services throughout twelve counties in Pennsylvania including Bradford, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming.

Many of the counties we serve are quite rural and it’s especially challenging for individuals we help in those counties to travel to medical facilities for health services.  That’s why Caring Communities has started a new Telehealth program to offer quality health care services for individuals living with HIV or AIDS.  This program is in its infancy, but shows great promise as it has the potential to put clients who choose to engage in this process in direct contact with our agency’s off-site medical doctor via the use of some of the latest medical technology.

Once this process is initiated, client medical histories can be obtained and, if warranted, scripts for HIV meds and other necessary medications can be ordered by our physician to ensure that clients living with HIV and AIDS receive more immediate care.  The program is voluntary, of course, but can be immensely beneficial for anyone with an HIV or AIDS diagnosis who finds him or herself experiencing difficulties obtaining transportation to a hospital or other medical facility, or waiting for several weeks or, worse yet, several months at a time to be seen by a specialist for their care.
